OUR MISSION IS TO:
– Honor the sacredness of the Earth
– Love our neighbor by feeding the hungry
– Build a community by attracting families, seniors & youth to work together
– Educate the community about healthy eating & good nutritional habits with an appreciation of where our food comes from.
We donate fresh produce to the hungry of our parish as well as our soup kitchens. There are many opportunities to volunteer either by planting & harvesting, composting, transporting the food or developing educational programs and/or bulletins. Our growing season is from late April through September. Garden stewards are organized in teams under the supervision of experienced gardeners who mentor the volunteers. No experience necessary — we learn as we grow! Contact Michele if you’d like to learn more about becoming a Team Leader or Garden Worker. We can always use additional members!
Our Compost Bins Are Open! (as of April 2021)
Our compost bins are located on the right of the parish garden. Composting is a way of returning to the land what has come from the land.
The following may be placed in our compost bins:
• all fresh fruits and vegetables
• coffee grinds (paper filters are also OK)
• egg shells and nutshells
• grass clippings from un-pesticide-treated grass (no bags please)
• paper towels
• leaves of any kind (fresh green, Fall brown, and even leaves from gutters)
• flowers (fresh, dried, or dead)
• saw dust and wood ash
• chopped twigs and chopped branches only
Please NO fats, oil, dairy or meat scraps; large branches, lumber, or invasive weeds
